Every monthly electricity bill — FESCO, MEPCO, LESCO, IESCO or any DISCO — follows the same NEPRA-approved tariff. Here's exactly what every line on your bill means.
Domestic consumers are billed on a progressive slab structure. The per unit price increases as your monthly units consumed cross thresholds. Typical slabs: 1–50 (lifeline), 51–100, 101–200, 201–300, 301–700 and above 700 units. Protected consumers staying below 200 units for six consecutive months get a reduced tariff.
The most volatile component. FPA reflects the gap between actual fuel costs (gas, RLNG, furnace oil, imported coal) and the reference fuel cost NEPRA used to set base tariffs. It can be positive (charge) or occasionally negative (refund), added per unit consumed.
A provincial tax charged at around 1.5% of the variable energy charges. Collected by the DISCO on behalf of the provincial government.
A flat PKR 35 per month charged to most domestic consumers as the Pakistan Television license fee, collected via the electricity bill.
Currently 18%, calculated on the variable energy charges plus FPA. The single largest tax component on most domestic and commercial bills.
A small monthly meter rent (typically PKR 15–25) covers maintenance. Industrial and commercial consumers on larger sanctioned loads also pay a fixed monthly capacity charge per kW.
Time-of-use (TOU) meters split consumption into peak hours (typically 6 PM – 10 PM) and off-peak. Off-peak units are billed at a significantly lower rate — shifting washing machines and water heaters to off-peak saves money.
The first 100 units are billed at the lowest applicable slab rate, the next 100 units at the middle slab rate, and the remaining 50 units at the higher slab rate. To this, FPA, ED, GST, TV fee and meter rent are added — plus any past arrears or instalments — to arrive at the total payable amount on the monthly electricity bill.
